Q4 2020 Recap: Top Film & Television Apps on Android in Brazil

As the year 2020 wrapped up, the Film & Television category saw significant user activity on the Android platform in Brazil. Data from Sensor Tower provides insights into how these apps performed in terms of downloads and weekly active users.

Disney+ saw a massive spike in downloads at the beginning of Q4, with 3.6M downloads in the week of November 16th, followed by a gradual decline to 1M downloads by the end of December. The weekly active users for Disney+ started at 4.1M in mid-November but dipped to around 2.5M in early December, before climbing back up to 2.8M by the year's end.

Netflix, a well-established player in the streaming space, maintained a steady download rate, hovering around 300K to 350K downloads weekly throughout the quarter. Interestingly, Netflix's weekly active users fluctuated within the 28M to 31M range, showing a consistent level of engagement among Brazilian users.

Amazon Prime Video experienced a peak in downloads at 389K during the week of November 16th but otherwise remained consistent with an average of around 250K weekly downloads. The active users saw a slight decline from 2.7M at the start of the quarter to around 2.5M towards the end, with minor fluctuations throughout.

Globoplay: Assista ao BBB 24! had a varied quarter, with downloads ranging from 133K to 245K. The weekly active users for Globoplay showed an overall upward trend, starting at 4.9M in late September and reaching a high of nearly 5M active users by late December.

Lastly, VIX - Cine y TV en Español saw an increase in downloads from 134K at the start of the quarter to over 207K by the end. The app's weekly active users also grew from 225K to 379K, indicating a growing interest in Spanish-language content among Brazilian users.
